Congratulations, Wills & Kate!

We walked to the square today for lunch. Stairs, squatting and sitting down/getting back up are still pretty painful, but walking feels good.  Our plan was to go to Expressly Leslie, but it is closed on Sundays. So we went to one of the few restaurants still open on the square.  La Petite Creperie is a cute little French bistro. I used to get the cheese platter and a salad with a glass of wine, but stopped going there after I became vegan.  I emailed the restaurant a while back inquiring about any vegan options and this was my friendly response:

“Hi Kristen.  Thank you for your inquiry.  We do not specifically have a vegan dish on the menu, but we are happy to accommodate any request that you may have.  For example, our vegetables are never sauteed in butter, only olive oil.  Also the mustard vinaigrette does not contain any dairy or egg products.  My suggestion is if you were to dine with us, just let the server know your concerns and we can come up with something that would be delicious but that also meets your dietary concerns.  Hope that helps.  If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know.”

I was very glad to hear that the mustard vinaigrette does not include eggs or dairy, because it is delicious.  Today I ordered the fruit platter, which they offer during breakfast, and a house salad with the vinaigrette.

Last Friday, Kate Middleton married Prince William in a beautiful Alexander McQueen dress.

To celebrate the Royal Wedding, we had a high tea-inspired dinner.

We had Cucumber and “Egg” & Cress Sandwiches.

Lentil Shepherd’s Pie with Sweet Potato Mash

I veganized it by using margarine and unsweetened almond milk, but her substitutions sound good, too.

Gin & Tonics

Tea and Lemon Maple Scones with Vegan Clotted Cream

All the recipes were really good, I can’t pick a favorite. The “egg” salad is surprisingly good and quite similar to real egg salad. It’s ridiculously easy, too.  The clotted cream is not very good on its own, but a little dab on the scones with blackberries is delicious.
