I’m a  labor & employment lawyer living in suburban Chicago.  I’ve been a vegetarian since 1997, vegan at home since 2007 and in August of 2010 I decided go vegan full-time.  I loved ice cream, pizza, and cute shoes, but I have learned to love their vegan alternatives.

This blog will focus on vegan food & fashion and my life in the ‘burbs.  Living in the Midwest suburbs makes it really hard to be vegetarian, much less vegan.  However, there are a few gems that make life out here manageable and the city is just a train ride away.

  1. Kristen,
Keith and I have gone vegan (just for 10 days). But I am a little more serious than he is; he can’t wait to get back to eating butter and meat. I just got onto your blog and am excited to see what information you have.

  2. I’ve just started reading your blog! My name’s Emily; I’m a college student who’s lived in Woodstock for going on 13 years. It’s refreshing to find another vegan in Woodstock! Your restaurant reviews have proved very helpful for me finding good vegan food in the Chicagoland area.

  3. Hi Kristen,

I just “stumbled upon” your post about our Valentine’s Day Dinner last season and had to write to say thank you! It was a first run, and it took us a little time to work out a couple of issues . . . not to mention some major staff changes recently . . . but we hope to soon publish a schedule of dinners starting in November. We were so busy that evening that we just didn’t have time to get pictures, so I was especially thrilled to see the beautiful pictures you had taken! Any chance I could get copies to use? Or that I could have your permission to “lift” and post in my FaceBook page? Of course I’ll credit you and point back to your blog. Anyway, thank you so much for your comments, and we hope to see you soon! – Leslie (Expressly Leslie Vegetarian Specialties)

  4. Stumbled upon as well through searching Expressly Leslie. I love eatin there and dig the blog! Hope you update a lot. 😀

  5. Kristy, I just found your blog because of a post from H. I love it! You are so talented and your writing is terrific. I hope I’ll get a chance to sample your cooking sometime soon. It’s already been too long.

  6. I saw your blog on the vegan mofo blog roll and noticed you are pregnant with twins. Congratulations! I am the mom to 2 sets of vegan twins (9-year olds and 3-year olds) and had 2 successful vegan twin pregnancies. If you have any questions, ask away.

  7. Hi there! Just ran across your post on us (Amour de la Terre) today! Thanks so much for the kind words! Looking forward to seeing you in the boutique again! 🙂

  8. Dear Kristen,

I’m not sure if this blog is still active, but I have recently moved back to Crystal Lake from DeKalb and I was wondering if you were aware of any veg*tarian groups in McHenry County.

    1. I don’t know of any in McHenry County, but the Suburban Chicago Vegetarian meetup group is a great group of people. They had a lot of stuff in Mundelein and Palatine when I lived there.
